The Meaning Behind the Ledchumy Collection
Share
At scrnchd. every scrunchie tells a story. The Ledchumy Collection, is one that's close to my heart as it's named in memory of my late grandmother.
Who is Ledchumy?
This collection is named after my Ammamma (grandmother) Ledchumy, who embodied strength, humility and genuine love. She was the cornerstone of our family, and my biggest supporter. I remember when I first started scrnchd., I gave her 3 of my favourite colours. Her being spiritual in nature, placed all three in her mini praying room, in other words the linen closet which many of us have in our homes.
Through her I learned to appreciate the little things, and more importantly the beauty of our traditions. I hope that through the Ledchumy Collection, you too can embody the appreciation and culture that these fabrics represent.
What is the Ledchumy Collection?
This collection celebrates tradition, sustainability and love. Each scrunchie in this collection is hand sewn from upcycled South Asian fabrics, in particular from sarees and pavadais that are more commonly worn in traditional Sri Lankan/Indian Tamil celebrations. The fabrics are transformed into unique accessories that mix heritage with modern styles.
Upcycling these fabrics not only brings them back to life, but also ensures that the beauty of South Asian textiles are cherished and shared in an accessible way.
